A cerebral hemorrhage has struck the father of a boy who was shot at the Fourth of July parade in Highland Park, Illinois. It adds to the string of upsetting incidents the family has endured lately.
Oscar Ramirez’s spouse, Viviana Cuevas, created a GoFundMe page where she mentions that her husband experienced a hemorrhage on Wednesday, July 13. Cuevas claimed that she created the website to relieve financial pressure on the family.
After Highland Park shooting, Cuevas launches a GoFundMe page with hopes of raising $150,000
Cuevas set up a GoFundMe campaign in order to gather $150,000 to help with Ramirez and his son’s medical costs and to provide financial support as Cuevas is the only provider for a family of five.
Ramirez has been transferred from Lake Forest Hospital to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he is currently being treated. He underwent a 7-hour surgery after being admitted.
Before saying that the incident had caused her and her family “much more stress and panic,” Cuevas said that Ramirez’s face was partially paralyzed as he boarded the ambulance.
Cuevas stated that their oldest son is still healing from the gunshot wound, and Ramirez does not have health insurance.
The Highland Park shooting caused chaos and bloodshed around
When a shooter opened fire on crowds gathered for a Fourth of July parade in Highland Park earlier this month, seven people were murdered and scores more were injured.
Robert E. Crimo, 21, the suspect, is accused of seven first-degree murder offenses. The killing is referred to as a “pre-meditated and deliberate attack” by the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office.
One of those killed was the son of Oscar Ramirez. The other two fatalities were identified as being Kevin McCarthy, 37, and Irina McCarthy, 35. Aiden, McCarthy’s 2-year-old son, was with them when the shooting began and was saved by a passerby. At the police station, he subsequently met his grandfather again.
In remembrance of the victims, the Highland Park neighborhood has come together for a number of memorial services and vigils.
The boy was taken off the ventilator, but the doctors stated he was still in severe condition. A GoFundMe campaign for him and his family has raised more than $918,000 as of 6 p.m. Friday.
