Two young crooks led cops on a slow speed chase in a high rise vehicle as they tried to escape on a stolen cherry picker.
The pair took it on a joyride but did not get very far on the raised platform.
Despite successfully bringing the vehicle to a stop, only one of the hapless duo was arrested as they other escaped on foot in Bolsover, Derbs in the early hours of Monday morning.
Officers mocked the pair on Twitter for the ‘strange’ crime.
The crooks did not manage to escape the police in the raised platform on Monday night
They tweeted: ‘Two rapscallions decided to steal this cherry picker and take it for a drive.
‘One arrested and one escaped.
‘#Crime #Strange.’
The unusual vehicle tickled several social media users.
Local Dean Vickers said: ‘How did you manage to keep up with that pursuit?’
Jeff Jones joked: ‘They had high hope but they were dashed by the DRPU.’
The pair were caught in dash cam footage on board the chasing police car in Derbyshire
And another said: ‘Loving two things about this tweet, 1. You caught one of them and got the equipment back and 2. You called them rapscallions!’
Three days later the team encountered another bizarre crime when someone reported the theft of a mini digger in Chesterfield.
They tweeted: ‘Some rapid response policing with @DerbyshireARU – locating this mini digger within 15 minutes of theft.
Truck has an interesting ignition key – also stolen and running on cloned plates. Driver arrested and property recovered.’
