Sid Jacobson was a writer and songwriter who wrote titles for Harvey Comics including Richie Rich and Flash Gordon.
Wide-ranging writing career
Jacobson got his start as a writer at Harvey Comics, where he worked for more than 30 years. He worked on a wide variety of titles there, including co-creating Richie Rich and Casper the Friendly Ghost as well as writing for Flash Gordon, Hot Stuff, Wendy the Witch, Little Dot, Joe Palooka, and others. Also a songwriter, Jacobson wrote Top Ten hits for Frankie Avalon (“A Boy Without a Girl”) and Earl Grant (“(At) The End (of a Rainbow)”). He later worked for Marvel Comics, co-creating their children’s imprint, Star Comics, and editing comic adaptations of “Fraggle Rock” and “Muppet Babies.” Jacobson wrote several novels, including the historical fiction “Streets of Gold,” as well as graphic novels. He co-wrote “The 9/11 Report: The Graphic Adaptation,” and his other graphic novel subjects included a biography of Anne Frank and the Bush presidency.
