Cedric McMillan was a leading bodybuilder who won the prestigious Arnold Classic in 2017.
Bodybuilder and soldier
McMillan began weight training as a teen. After high school, he joined the U.S. Army, and he began competing as a bodybuilder soon after. He rose to become one of the top bodybuilders in the world, winning or placing in the top five at a number of competitions. McMillan was set apart by his physique, which was a leaner throwback to earlier days of bodybuilding, in contrast to the larger look favored my most contemporary bodybuilders. He continued his Army career until his death, ranked as a sergeant first class and serving as an instructor.
McMillan’s advice for fellow bodybuilders
“To those service members and, you know, the guys and the ladies backstage that compete, when you get a chance, I guess I would say, sacrifice yourself to the people that love you. We give so much of ourselves to the gym, prep and work. So give yourself to your family and the people that love you while you’re still healthy and still have a chance.” —from a speech at the 2021 NPC Armed Forces Nationals
