Arthur William “Bill” Shaffer, 85, of Mt. Pleasant, died Friday, May 6, 2022, in UPMC Mercy Hospital. He was born July 20, 1936, at Acme, a son of the late Arthur Sherman and Hulda Brown Shaffer. Bill was a 1955 graduate of the former Hurst High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He worked as a tree trimmer for most of his life and he was the former owner and operator of the Dairy Haus in Scottdale. He was member of the Masonic Lodge in Columbus, Ohio, and he was a member of the Mt. Salem United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Marlene Wiltrout Shaffer; two sons, Bill Shaffer and his wife Kelly of Hunker and Ken Shaffer and Chris Landy of Laurelville; three grandchildren, Cara Shaffer, Brian Shaffer and his wife Katelyn and Kenny Landy and two great-grandchildren, Briella and Beckham. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Louise Fenton and Lucille White, and one brother, Merle Shaffer. Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday in the Brooks Funeral Home Inc., 406 E. Washington St., Mt. Pleasant. Additional viewing will take place on Tuesday in the Mt. Salem United Methodist Church from 10 to 11 a.m., the hour services with Rev. Leona Logan officiating. Interment will follow in the Brown Cemetery.
