Telehealth giant Amwell is expanding into musculoskeletal care and dermatology.

The MSK offering includes a customized physical therapy plan, virtual coaching and a digital sensor to allow for guided exercises, as well as access to behavioral health services. The dermatology program allows health plan members to access virtual visits with dermatologists.

“These programs thoughtfully expand our ecosystem of specialty care services, allowing health plans to offer a comprehensive care experience across a wide range of care needs, via a single partner with a digital care delivery platform designed to treat the whole person, including transactional and longitudinal care needs across in person, virtual and automated settings,” chairman and CEO Dr. Ido Schoenberg said in a statement.

Digital MSK was a popular space for investors last year, with startups like Hinge Health and SWORD Health bringing in nine-figure funding rounds. Meanwhile, companies like Nurx – which was recently acquired by Thirty Madison – Ro and Hims & Hers also compete in virtual dermatology care.

Mount Sinai Innovation Partners, an arm of Mount Sinai Health System that aims to commercialize its research and products, launched a fund to help women and people of color advance and commercialize their health technology innovations.

The fund, called i3 Prism, will provide selected Mount Sinai faculty, staff and students up to $33,000, depending on the stage of their project.

“i3 Prism will enable women and BIPOC innovators to take the next step in advancing breakthrough health care technologies to benefit patients,” Erik Lium, president of MSIP and chief commercial innovation officer of Mount Sinai, said in a statement. “This fund will directly support i3 Prism awardees in bringing their solutions to the next level.”

Hybrid provider Carbon Health announced this week it was expanding its in-person clinics in Southern California with the acquisition of MedPost Urgent Care.

The MedPost clinics are located in Orange County, Palm Desert and Paso Robles. Carbon said this brings its Southern California locations to 45, with more than 120 operating nationwide.

“Everyone deserves good health, and increasing our footprint is a critical step towards that goal,” cofounder and CEO Eren Bali said in a statement. “We look forward to bringing our innovative, patient-centered healthcare to more people in Southern California.”

The hybrid provider has made a number of recent acquisitions. In October, Carbon announced it had scooped up Central Jersey Urgent Care, which operated 10 clinics in New Jersey. The company also acquired Southern Arizona Urgent Care’s nine clinics in Tucson, Arizona, and Med7 Urgent Care’s four clinics in Sacramento, California, in August.

Outside of in-person locations, Carbon purchased remote patient company Alertive Healthcare and diabetes-focused Steady Health last year.
